We went over to the pumpkin patch by our house and I got some pictures. Jackson wasn't thrilled to be posing for me. The fourth one down is pretty pitiful.
The portraits are getting better and better. Now all you need to do is invest in Adobe Photoshop CS2 (CS3, the new version, will be out in March/April).
With Photoshop, you can turn a great picture into an awesome picture with some basic, simple color, saturation, contrast, level, and other tweaks.
For a quick and dirty example, compare the 5th picture in this set with one I did some basic, "good for just about every photo," manipulation on:
Another thing lot of digital photographers overlook are the color setting on you display. Open up the System Preferences, click Displays, click the Color tab, and select sRGB EIC61966-2.1 from the display profile list.
When/if you get Photoshop, you'll select this same profile, and what you see on screen is what you'll be manipulating — and what should print. This profile is the new industry standard for scanners, printers, prepress, etc.
