Advertising

I need some low-cost advertising for my photography business. Any ideas? I'm planning on going around to some local business and dropping off business cards. I have redone my business cards by the way and they look much better now. Here's a picture.

I keep wanting to get a big rear sticker for the back of my truck but other things keep coming up that are more pressing. If any of my regular readers would like some cards to hand out to coworkers or family or whoever, let me know and I'll get you some cards. I'm facing the prospect of having to get a second job or "real job." I would really rather not have to do that. I've got enough to do already. Any help with drumming up business would be greatly appreciated. It's really hard to get a new business off the ground. I think I probably learned that in some entrepreneurial class I took in college. Anyway, I'm certainly not above asking for help so if you can put in a good word for me, I'd really appreciate it.

The card looks great! I'd love some. I'm one of your biggest fans!!

A few advertising ideas:

school staff room bulletin boards

bulletin boards around town

put several cards in front of your photo books when you deliver an order

ad in the paper

hack into a popular persons myspace or facebook account.

Jackson going door to door passing the cards out looking all hungry and stuff.

lemonade stand with a photo display

Okay, the last three are a joke. Sometimes people don't get my attempts at humor.

Hey the Jackson door to door thing could work. He doesn't look very well fed anyway. Rub a little dirt on his face, tear his shirt....could work. Thanks for the ideas.

Went to several local businesses today and left cards. I'm sure for every 50 cards I leave I *might* get one client. But that's just kind of how it goes.

What section of the paper do you think? Is there a cheap section?

I'll take some cards - I tell people about you already but cards would be helpful.
Also you should consider making a Facebook group or MySpace group or something (Maybe not hacking ;) haha) but other people will join and look at the link.

I've gotten about 4 clients because of you, Mindy! You rock! But I'll be glad to give you some cards. I've never done the Facebook thing or Myspace. How is that really different than blogger? Will it get me more traffic?

Okay, okay...you don't have to hack into my facebook, I will give you an endorsement.

2 really good ideas:

1.) T-shirts with a picture of Kendall on them that say "Jenny is so good she can make your baby as cute as this one."

2.) Plastic bracelets that have the acronym KJFH2GASJ - "Keep Jenny From Havin' To Get A Second Job!" It could be a powerful campaign.

Seriously...we will take some cards. I am hoping you will get to the point that you have to hire Ashley part time to be your gimp.

As far as an ad in the paper goes, I don't have a clue. You can go to the Fact website and look around at where other ads are. They might have a special section for new businesses or something. You could also try the free paper. I can't remember the name of it but it's cheap to put an ad in there and it's just kind of one big classified paper. Not sure how much business that would really give you, though. I think mostly old people read the paper. :)

I think my favorite is putting something in the proof books because that is an instant visual of your work and it gets passed around to friends and family, I'm sure. Consider making up a "photo" to put in the first slot that is advertising for you with some business cards for people to take.

I do like the bracelet idea! I'd wear one.

BTW - we need to schedule a shoot. See you got one job and didn't even have to waste a card!

I redirect about 2-3 of my clients a week to you, but I don't always know if they call you.

I always put cards with orders. And when I did proof books, I always put a card or two in there. But I'm not doing proof books anymore, except for the baby plan people.

Sorry, I guess I'm a little behind. Guess you should start dirtying up Jackson's face then. Plan your outing around the time when he needs a hair cut. That might make it more effective.

I think with facebook - people tend to link around on each other's pages and see what links there are. I know a lot of mommies on facebook as a social network.
I don't like myspace very much...facebook seems a little nicer. who knows! whatever works right? I'm glad you have gotten business through me - I'll keep on passing your name!
Besides - you can get more business after you take more Landon pics this weekend :)
